Surroundings
There is so much to do in the vicinity of camping de Kienehoef. Too many activities to mention here. We would like to refer you to the reception where various current information can be obtained.
Some tips are:
Experience Sint Oedenrode!
Everywhere you look you can see the beauty of the Brabant Meierij. The river Dommel flows through the historic center of Sint-Oedenrode and gives the village a unique character. Sint-Oedenrode is a veritable green oasis and was voted the greenest village in Europe for nothing! Nature experience and relaxation go hand in hand. That is what you will experience with the Kienehoef.
There are various walking and cycling routes available at the reception in and around Sint-Oedenrode. In addition, there are route routes through the village. The main attractions are: Henkenshage Castle and park, the Corridor, the Martinus Church, the Borchmolendijk and of course the market where the bustling center of Sint-Oedenrode can be found with terraces and many shops.

Castle Henkenshage
Officially, Henkenshage Castle is not a castle but a fortified mansion with no military function. It was built in the beginning of the 14th century. The castle consists of a front building that encloses a courtyard on two sides. The castle consists of a front building that encloses a courtyard on two sides. The front gate is surrounded by two round towers. Towers can also be found at the corners. The castle stands on an island and has a beautiful park around it. On Sunday, the castle is open for tours. Many weddings are also organized.
Castle Dommelrode
Castle Dommelrode dates back to the sixteenth century. So it is a young castle. In the early days this castle was called De Bocht, because it was built in a curve of the Dommel. This castle was put into use as a town hall after a thorough restoration in 1963. During the restoration, a number of important relics were found, such as a well in the hall. There is a small museum where archaeological finds are exhibited.
Knoptoren church
On the banks of the Dommel, overlooking the fields and the old core of Sint-Oedenrode is the Knoptorenkerk. For centuries the Knoptoren Church has been the place for masses and church services, celebrations and funeral ceremonies both in time of war and in peace. A number of times church and tower have been destroyed, but the cockerel on the Knoptoren looks like never before in the sun. In 2009, the Knoptorenkerk was transferred by the Protestant municipality to the Knoptorenkerk Foundation. Once a month it is possible to climb the knot tower. The climb of 154 steps ends at the watch. From there you have a magnificent view.
The Martinus church
The church misses the never-built high tower on the right. This church was built in 1915, after the old Martinus church was demolished in 1912. The high choir of the medieval Sint-Odakerk from 1498 has been left standing. The current church is designed in Neo-Gothic style.
Giant clog
The giant clog in the Dommelplantsoen along the Corridor reminds of the past of Sint-Oedenrode as the center of the clog industry. The almost three-meter long wooden shoe was originally made of wood, but it fell prey to vandalism. The current clog is made of concrete.
The Hambrug
Formerly the bridge was made of wood, but since 1883 it is made of brick with metal railings. On 11 May 1940 the bridge was blown up in the war. In June 1941 the bridge was rebuilt and served both as a connection and as a river improvement.
Pearls of the Meierij
Those who come to Noordoost-Brabant and the Meierij are amazed by the versatile small-scale landscape. Nature, country estates, agricultural lands and villages alternate. The landscape of the Meierij is intersected by two rivers: the Aa and Dommel. At ‘s-Hertogenbosch the Aa and the Dommel come together in the Dieze, which flows into the Meuse. The city has arisen at this point. The Meierij consists mainly of flat to slightly undulating sandy soils, which occur mainly in Peelland, the Kempen and the catchment areas of the Aa and the Dommel. In the past the Meierij also had many heath landscapes, marshes, peatlands and forest landscapes. After the Middle Ages, large parts of the vast heath and moors were cultivated, leaving only a small part of this.
Characteristic of the Meierij is the so-called poplar landscape. This characteristic landscape owes its origin to the forefoot that was instituted by the dukes of Brabant in feudal times. This right means that the owner of a plot adjacent to the public road may plant trees on the roadside before his plot. Initially, oaks and willows were mainly planted along the public roads. The wood of those trees was used as a building material, especially for the trusses and the brick walls of farms. As the farms became increasingly petrified, the need for oak and willow wood declined. In the Meierij, more and more use was made of the forefoot to plant poplars. The poplar wood could be sold to the clog and match factories that then emerged in the region. In that period, Sint-Oedenrode also developed into a clog village.
Discover The Green Forest
The combination of nature development, sustainable agriculture and green recreation creates a valuable cultural-historical landscape.
